- System Shift
At Zizi Afrique Foundation, we believe in the power of systemic change to achieve sustainable, impactful transformation in education. One of our core pillars in ALiVE program, System Shift, focuses on enhancing the capacity of education systems to integrate life skills and values into their curricula, assessments, and teacher training programs across East Africa.
Our Vision for System Shift
Through this initiative, we aim to reshape education systems to ensure that life skills and values—such as respect, problem solving, self-awareness, and collaboration—are not only taught but embedded in every aspect of learning. We partner with key stakeholders, including government agencies, curriculum experts, and civil society organizations, to mainstream these competencies in schools and communities.
Key Areas of Focus
We work closely with curriculum development departments in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania to strengthen the inclusion of life skills and values. This involves formalizing partnerships with curriculum institutes and building the capacity of curriculum experts to revise and improve educational content.
We support national and sub-national education systems to integrate life skills and values into both formative and summative assessments. This ensures that students are evaluated not only on academic performance but also on essential life competencies.
A critical part of this pillar involves enhancing the capacity of pre-service and in-service teacher training institutions. We equip educators with the tools and methodologies needed to assess and nurture life skills in their students, creating a more holistic approach to teaching.
To drive long-term change, we collaborate with social and political influencers, media, and community-based organizations. Through regional roundtables and media engagement, we raise awareness about the importance of life skills and values in education and influence public discourse on the topic.
Â
Through the System Shift pillar, we aim to directly impact thousands of education stakeholders and millions of parents, children, and communities across East Africa. By advocating for the mainstreaming of life skills and values, we are shaping an education system that prepares students not just for exams but for life.
This initiative is part of our broader ALiVE program, which has already generated evidence and mobilized action across the region. Our work under this pillar will further strengthen the capacities of government agencies, educational institutions, and communities to support the holistic development of children and youth.
Join Us in Creating a System Shift
We invite educators, policymakers, and stakeholders in the education sector to join us in this transformative journey. Together, we can build an education system that empowers children and youth to thrive in life and work.
